Steady State DC Corona Ionization

Steady-State DC Corona Ionization. Steady State DC Corona Ionization continuously applies positive high voltage to half of the emitter points and negative high voltage to the other half. Steady-state DC ionization may be employed with low or high airflow, so it is commonly used in room systems and blowers.

How does DC Air Ionization Work?

It’s important to keep in mind that although an ionizer can be AC powered, it can ionize its emitter points using direct current (DC).

Unlike AC corona ionization, which emits both positive and negative ions from the same emitter point, DC corona ionizers emit ions from separate positive and negative emitter points. Since the ions are emitted from separate points, there is much less recombination of ions.

How does ESD Air Ionization Work?

When AC (alternating current) or DC (direct current) is applied to a sharp emitter point it creates an electric field or “corona” around the emitter. This high voltage corona of ions then interacts with electrons in the nearby gas molecules “cleaning” the air of unwanted charged air molecules.

ESD Air ionizers are used to remove static electric charges from the surfaces of ungrounded objects. (Keep in mind, you can use anti static mats to ground table tops and standing surfaces.) However, if you need to make sure static is not building up on your workstations consider using ESD air ionization.
